New Short Film, Jack the Ripper (Coming Soon)!

We are really excited to announce our next short film, Jack the Ripper! Along with the Umbrella Factory released earlier this year, this is our second short that we've been working on. We're also really excited to be working with the super talented James Brinkley once again as he embodies the voice of the Ripper himself.

The Umbrella Factory was made of paper, cut outs, Victorian etchings that we printed out and cut and then scanned. Jack the Ripper, goes the opposite direction with some really beautiful 3D cities, models, and sets developed by some great 3D artists!

Making of The Umbrella Factory

There was an approach we had been wanting to experiment with where we could use hand made paper cutouts and textures, scan them in and import them into After Effects and tell a story. We had been wanting to try it for years.

One cold morning in February while I was talking (or rather whining) to Nick about wanting to do a an awesome project that felt Tim Burton-Neil Gaiman-Jamie Caliri-Walt Disney Museum-(which you have to go to if you are ever in the Presidio of San Francisco) -sort of-look. He chimed in about what if we do “The Umbrella Factory,” the adaption he’d been working on of the Monkey’s Paw by W.W. Jacobs. It was then that we started talking about ideas in terms of what that world might look like and how best to pull it off...

The Umbrella Factory is here!

Naissance is extremely excited to unveil our newest short film, The Umbrella Factory! The tale of three brothers and the traveller they meet who knocks on their door one evening and asks to come in out of the pouring rain.

Here's the official synopsis:

One evening, a traveller knocked upon the door of three brothers. Asking for a place to stay, as he has nowhere else to go, he offers them his magic talisman for payment in exchange for room and board to come in out of the pouring rain. What the brothers learn is that the talisman is capable of granting three wishes. But be careful what you wish for.

Based on the Horror Short Story, The Monkey’s Paw, by W.W. Jacobs.

New short film: The Umbrella Factory! (Coming Soon!)

Soooooo, we keep getting asked about that new film still on our website we let out of the bag a few weeks ago all suspiciously. Well, we're stoked to announce our new short film:

The Umbrella Factory!

It's a twisted little tale of Victorian paper cutouts, based on the gothic horror story of the Monkey's Paw by W.W. Jacobs.

Charade, Main Titles

One of the greatest films of all time is without a doubt the Cary Grant & Audrey Hepburn classic, Charade. We’ve seen this movie about a million times. One of our dreams has always been to have directed the Opening Titles. So, hop in your time machines and let’s go!

Below are the Main Titles for Charade, as done by us.

And if you haven’t seen the original titles, go see this excellent movie! The original titles from 1963 by Maurice Binder are amazing! People have called this film “the best Hitchcock movie that Hitchcock never directed.”

Underground Film Festival

Hello Ireland! Our film One Shot is part of this years official selection at the Underground Film Festival. It’ll be playing at the festival with a bunch of other dangerous sounding films! It’s going to be great! Guinness and popcorn! I suppose. Maybe it’ll just be Guinness.

The festival is from August 10th - 18th

One Shot is a film shot entirely in one shot. For more on the film you can check it out right here:

We Heart Creatives

This last week we traveled over every inch of Northern California. We talked with creatives from every industry possible about what their lives are like. We chatted with animators, photographers, sculptors, musicians, filmmakers, fashion designers, painters, brand strategist, graphic designers, actors, producers, and more. But what we found were adventurers, matadors, zen masters, and people who are following their hearts. It was a pretty amazing week and we want to thank everyone who stopped by, helped out, told us their story, and invited us into their homes.

Pixar!

Last week we were invited to Pixar to check out their latest short film, La Luna, which has a ton of buzz right now! The film, which debuted to big reviews on the festival circuit, will be opening with Brave this summer, and it’s amazing. It’s a little early to put it on the calendar, but when it’s out, go see it!

After a presentation of their films reaching all the way back to 1984 (the historic Adventures of Andre and Wally B) to the present Small Fry, it was amazing to see how their work had progressed and continues to progress. The film played with a nice little intro and making of presentation by director Enrico Casarosa (who definitely deserves the oscar nom).

One Shot, Short Film

We’re excited to unveil One Shot! One Shot is our short film filled with oil tycoons, propaganda, glitches, and a little bit of blood!

One Shot is a film made in one take (well, two takes if you count the camera man falling over in the middle of take one to everyone’s surprise)! It’s an experimental piece we directed so that we could hang out with actors all day, play with guns, and dress up in ski masks.

48 Hours at Adobe with Zombies
banner_zombie

This last weekend, Naissance producer Lexie Findarle Trivundza produced a stereoscopic short film over at Adobe working with director Erik Espera. The shoot had it all, from haunted basements, crew running in every direction, and of course: zombies. The reason for the crew running in every direction? They only had two days to produce the shoot, edit, and blast through post!

This stereoscopic zombie fantasia makes it’s debut next Wednesday in San Francisco.

Premiere Screenings:

Date: Wednesday, June 22nd

Time: 7PM and 9PM

Place: Lumiere Theater, 1572 California Street, San Francisco, 94109

Tickets: $10 (Purchase them here...)
