STARPOST

When a ragtag team of pilots, led by the no-nonsense Scout, gets caught in a deadly dogfight over a hostile planet, it’s up to them to outsmart enemy forces, dodge explosive fire, and escape with vital intel that could change the course of the war.

With her no nonsense boss Hutch and relentlessly optimistic partner Dodge, Scout must lead the charge. The mission is simple: get in, grab the intel, and get out, but things go south fast. One by one, their team is shot down, and Scout’s skills are pushed to the breaking point. It's a high-octane race to survive, finish the mission, and get back home - alive.

STARPOST: Advancing Sci-Fi Filmmaking with Unreal Engine and Metahumans

In the sci-fi film STARPOST, the filmmakers have embraced new technology to create a visually immersive world that pushes the boundaries of traditional filmmaking. Set in a distant future where humanity explores the unknown reaches of space, much of the film’s striking environments were brought to life using Unreal Engine. With its real-time rendering capabilities, Unreal Engine allowed the team to craft expansive planetary landscapes, canyons carved with ancient temples, and thrilling scenes swooping through geometric caves with remarkable detail. The ability to make adjustments on the fly in a virtual production environment helped streamline the process and ensure the creative vision remained intact.

A key feature of STARPOST is the use of Metahumans to portray the villainous pilots in pursuit of our heroes. These digital characters, created using Metahuman Creator, provided a level of realism that added depth to the story. The ability to design highly detailed, customizable human figures gave the filmmakers the flexibility to capture the pilots' intimidating personalities. From facial expressions to intricate hair and skin textures, Metahumans enabled the team to bring these characters to life in a way that felt natural and engaging.

By integrating Unreal Engine and Metahumans into the filmmaking process, STARPOST demonstrates how technology can enhance storytelling in subtle yet impactful ways. These tools allowed the filmmakers to create detailed worlds and characters that might otherwise have been difficult to achieve, all while keeping the focus on the story. As the use of digital environments and virtual humans continues to evolve, STARPOST offers a glimpse into the future of filmmaking, where new tools and techniques can help bring creative visions to life for independent filmmakers in ways that were once only imaginable for big studios.
